Buying Custom Furniture in Albania: A Practical Guide for Foreign Buyers

Buying Custom Furniture in Albania: A Practical Guide for Foreign Buyers

Every month we welcome people to our workshop who are furnishing a home in Albania from a distance: expats who have settled in Tirana, diaspora families renovating the house they grew up in, Italians fitting out an apartment on the coast. Most of them are surprised by the same two things: how normal made-to-measure furniture is here, and how manageable the whole process is — even from another country. This guide explains how it works.

Why have your furniture made in Albania

Albania has a strong tradition of furniture workshops, and unlike much of Western Europe, made-to-measure is the norm here, not a luxury. Kitchens, wardrobes and bedrooms are built to the exact centimetres of your walls, not picked from a catalogue of standard modules. Buying workshop-direct means you talk to the people who actually build and install your furniture — no middlemen, no retail markup. Lead times are short too: from design approval to installation usually takes 3–6 weeks, not months. For buyers used to Western European retail prices for standard modules, the quality-to-value ratio of workshop-direct work is usually the most pleasant surprise of the whole project.

What you can have made

Almost anything that stands against a wall can be built to measure. The most common orders from foreign buyers are complete kitchens, hinged and sliding-door wardrobes, walk-in closets, bedroom sets, TV and living-room units, bathroom vanities and entrance furniture. Holiday apartments on the coast are often furnished as a single package — kitchen, wardrobes and bedrooms designed together, in matching colours and materials, and installed in one visit. That single-package approach matters most when you live abroad: one measurement, one design round, one installation date, and one team responsible for the final result.

How the process works — remotely or in person

  1. Measurement. If you are in Albania, we come and measure your home free of charge. If you are abroad, a floor plan and a video call are enough to start; we take the final measurements ourselves before production.
  2. 3D design and quote. We prepare a 3D design with a full quote, free. You see the furniture in your own rooms before a single board is cut.
  3. Approval. Revisions and sign-off happen over WhatsApp or email — materials, colours and dimensions are confirmed in writing.
  4. Production. Everything is built in our own workshop, usually within 3–6 weeks.
  5. Delivery and installation. Our own installation team delivers and fits the furniture anywhere in Albania — Tirana, Durrës and all along the coast.

What to check when choosing a workshop

  • Materials. For kitchens, bathrooms and seaside apartments, insist on moisture-resistant MDF or melamine — coastal humidity is unforgiving.
  • Hardware. Soft-close hinges and drawer systems from established manufacturers are what make the difference after five years of daily use.
  • A written warranty. Serious workshops offer one without hesitation; we give 2 years.
  • An in-house installation team. Ask whether installation is done by the workshop's own people or subcontracted — fitting quality is half the job.
  • Comparable work. Ask to see projects similar to yours; we also regularly build for hotels and bars, where durability requirements are even stricter.

Scriveteci pure in italiano.

Frequently asked questions

Do Albanian workshops speak English?

Many do, especially in Tirana, and Italian is even more widely spoken. In our workshop you can run the whole project in English, Italian or Albanian, from first message to installation day.

Can I order without being in Albania?

Yes. With a floor plan, the 3D design and communication over WhatsApp or email, many of our clients approve everything from abroad and only fly in for the handover — some not even for that.

Is delivery to Durrës and the coast included?

We deliver and install across Albania, including Durrës and the coastal towns. The exact delivery terms are confirmed in writing in your quote, so there are no surprises.

How does payment work?

The usual practice is a deposit when you place the order and the balance on delivery and installation. Bank transfer, including international transfer, works without any problem, and everything is confirmed in writing.

How far in advance should I plan?

Count backwards from the date you want to move in: 3–6 weeks of production, plus a week or two for measurements and design revisions. For summer deliveries on the coast, it is wise to approve the design in spring, because installation calendars fill up quickly before the season.
